Who's Who?
Irine Fokine, director
A member of one of Russia's Leading Ballet families, Irine Fokine's life has been dedicated to dancing, teaching and choreography.  Coming to the United States from Russia as a young dancer, she was schooled by her mother, a prima ballerina in what later became the Kirov Ballet.  She is the niece of Michael Fokine, world famous choreographer of the Ballet Russes and American Ballet Theater.
Miss Fokine, who opened her studio in Ridgewood, New Jersey 50 years ago, has left her mark on generations of dancers, many of whom perform with companies across the United States, Canada and Europe.  She has produced and choreographed countless ballets in the United States and has been a guest choreographer in Germany, Poland and South America.  But it is the Nutcracker for which Miss Fokine retains a special fondness.  Her mother performed in the original production in St. Petersburg in 1892, and Miss Fokine delights each year in renewing her family's century-old link with this most beloved chapter of ballet history.
